Congressman Roscoe Bartlett Sponsors Art Competition for High School Students
Deadline for School Participation Form is March 5; Deadline to Submit Artwork is May 2
Washington, Feb 21 -
“I will be sponsoring the 2008 Congressional Artistic Discovery Competition for Senior High School students,” announced Congressman Roscoe Bartlett today. “I believe that this competition provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the talent of students in the Sixth Congressional District and acknowledge our nation’s gifted young artists.” Artistic Discovery is a high school art competition coordinated by individual Members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The deadline for submitting high school participation forms has been extended to March 5, 2008. Forms should be completed and returned to the Alleghany/Garrett District office no later than this date. The deadline for submitting artwork to the closest district office is May 2, 2008. All addresses are listed below. Competition guidelines and required forms are posted on my website at http://bartlett.house.gov/uploadedfiles/2008CACPackage.pdf. Please contact Art Competition Coordinator Brenda Frantz with any questions at 800-889-3012 (toll free).
Invitations to participate in the competition have been sent to the public and non-public high schools and home schooled students in the Sixth District of Maryland. Participating students must reside in the Sixth Congressional District. Students who reside in Harford, Baltimore or Montgomery County, can verify their Congressional district online at: http://mdelect.net/ to avoid disqualification. Entries can be submitted in one of seven categories: paintings, drawings, collage, prints, mixed media, computer generated art and photography. Further information regarding each category can be found using the link to competition guidelines that is listed above. Each student may only submit one piece of art.
On May 23, 2008, the winners in each of the seven categories and the Sixth Congressional District Best in Show will be announced. The Best in Show winner from the Sixth District of Maryland will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel in the Capitol building for one year and may be awarded an Artistic Merit Scholarship in the amount of $5000.00 per year, by the Savannah College of Art and Design. The Sixth District Best in Show winner will also be invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony and reception in Washington, DC with other Best in Show winners from around the United States.
