Congressman Roscoe Bartlett Emphasizes Importance of Small Business Job Creation in Economic Stimulus Package After Visit to Frederick by President Bush
Comments After President Bush’s Visit Today to Wright Manufacturing Inc.
Washington, Jan 18 -
Congressman Roscoe Bartlett said, “I am very pleased that the President chose to come to Frederick, Maryland today to discuss an economic stimulus package at a dynamic and successful small business, Wright Manufacturing, Inc. Small businesses are the engine of our economy. Small businesses represent more than 99 percent of all employers, employing 51 percent of private-sector workers and 40 percent of workers in high-tech jobs. Small businesses produce 60 to 80 percent of all the new jobs.”
Congressman Bartlett cautioned, “It’s important to remember that calling a policy proposal a stimulus doesn’t mean that it will actually strengthen the economy. The federal government will be borrowing money from our children and grandchildren to pay for the stimulus package. To strengthen our economy, the stimulus package has to help entrepreneurs and small businesses make investments this year that will create new jobs.”
Congressman Bartlett is a former small business owner and a senior member of the House Small Business Committee.
